I have now been active for 7 days straight. Pretty impressed with myself so far - but I am very sore....not a bad kind of sore, but an all over body kind of sore that reminds you how out of shape you really are. I am having fun with my trainer Paul, and he promises me that the workouts are going to get harder as we go. We have been taking it kind of slow so that he can explain what muscle groups I am supposed to feel and so we can focus on form - but next time I am sure we will be able to go through them faster. We are also adding more weight - apparently the set should be hard to finish - making the last 1-2 reps very difficult....so if you are able to do all 15 reps without problem and only a little burn - it is time to increase that weight!
I now have two separate routines - one for upper body and one for lower body - and I am not sure if I mentioned it before, but Paul doesn't like the machines because they isolate the muscle group and he prefers to have more muscle engagement....which apparently means that when I am working out my arms/upper body, that leads to having sore abs. I was joking with the people at work today that if they were ever to want to beat me up, today would be the day - because my legs are too tired to run and I was having trouble lifting my arms to defend myself...luckily no one took me up on it ;)
So tonight I opted to use the pool to give my body a bit of a break. I love swimming, but forgot how much until I was in the water. I think I am going to have to invest in some goggles though so that I don't look like I have been crying all night when I get out. The pool is salt water, which is easier on the eyes than chlorine, but my eyes are sore/red nonetheless. So will have to add that to the growing list of things I need to buy - fancy gym outfits, more anti-blister socks, new runners and now new swim stuff...anyways, it was great, burned a lot of calories and I can head into the weekend with some confidence.
This is going to be my first real test of willpower. I am going up to my sister's place in Ottawa for a housewarming party (her 1st house - SO excited!!), but there will be a lot of temptations there as well - including wine!!!! Now, the nutrition program they have me on does include wine and beer but to them a glass of wine is 3.5 oz? Um....have they seen my wine glasses? That would barely cover the bottom....so to make it feel like a larger glass of wine I am going to have to switch to my aperitif glasses so at least it will look full.
Linz and I have already talked about it and are going to set up a good food table and a bad food table. That way at least I can go and get some snacks, but stick to the healthy ones - like veggies and fruit - instead of my favorite chips and dip - because when it comes to salty carbs I have zero self-control.
So I am off for the weekend, but if you have any suggestions on party self-control or healthy party foods, feel free to comment!

great idea about using a smaller wine glass. I'm stealing that idea!!
And in your honor I went to a 6AM spinning class this morning. So far I'm still functional but give me another hour or tow and someone might find me asleep at my desk... call me around 10:30 to wake me up, would you??
BTW - did you read my blog and the acronym I used for you! It makes me giggle every time and puts a smile on on my face. So even if you dont' like it tough. ; )
